This new home is located in Guelph Ontario. The clients are a young professional couple with a new baby. They presently live in and own a modest home on this site. The existing home is very small and becoming quite uncomfortable for this growing family however, they do like the location and the site backs on to parkland. For various reasons they wanted a new home that would not exceed 2000 square feet above grade but wanted a very open feel and capturing the view of the parkland. They wanted a feeling of space and the ground floor suitable for entertaining family and friends. The home was to have three bedrooms on the second floor as well as a guest bedroom which could be elsewhere in the house.

As the site is sloping towards the parkland at the rear of the house, there was an opportunity to have the “basement” level also open to the parkland view. Various other amenity spaces were also provided over the three levels of this house.

The exterior expression of the house is a combination of dark grey / black brick and pre-finished engineered wood cladding. The fenestration. / glazing is primarily on the north and south elevations of this home enhancing the feeling of space and engaging the views of this open plan home.
